Title: Coraline

Author: Niel Gaiman

Pages: 192

Overall Rating: 10/10

The novel follows an initially ungrateful girl who discovers a door to another dimension that is similar to her world and in her first impression she finds it to be better than the real world. She meets the other father and other mother who wish to sew buttons onto her eyes and wish to keep her in this world and the story follows her rebellion against the other mother and uncovers the truth of this supernatural world.  Coraline frees her trapped parents and defeats the other mother and becomes more grateful for her parents and the life she has. As well as her parents having the chance to spend more time with her.

The moral of this novel is to be grateful for what you have and not take things for granted.

Content Warnings: The book does have frightening aspects including threats on children, missing children and also taking souls of children.

I would recommend that this novel is aimed more towards 10 year olds and above. Just due to the potentially frightening nature of some of the content. Though the book is highly accessible in terms of the language used.
