Christopher Paolini is a highly talented author and it shows in his series (plural). His series is fascinating because he wrote Eragon whilest only being a teenager yet his writing has a sense of maturity to it still.

His first novel Eragon introduces the world of Aglaesia and our archetypal hero Eragon who is chosen to be a dragon rider by his dragon Saphira. We watch this boy experience rapid changes in his life from the loss of family members to being thrown into politics and having to navigate a tense rebellion group he is set to join. .

His second novel explores Eragon's education and we begin to see that Eragon is going to have to face up to his actions that have genuine impactful to the overall narrative. We see expertly crafted battle scenes and plot twists that keep you engaged in the series as a whole

The third novel encompasses the realities of war and hardship and also the result of fighting against tyranny and how it is possible to return from a overly controlling regime by people with good in their hearts. We also see themes of betrayal and love.

His fourth novel is a true fantasy adventure novel that keeps one hooked with different POVs but not too many that the book becomes confusing and overcomplicated.

Murtagh has its own review on this page as it was our book of the month.

I personally really love all the books in this series the characters are all highly well developed and that the side plots all add to the overall narrative. It is expertly written and I could not recommend this more it is a fabulous series and opens you to a world of imagination, love and a brilliant form of escapism. A true comfort read that fills me with joy every time.
